Zordon's Power Rangers: Day of the Dumpster

Welcome to my comic book script of Zordon's Power Rangers: Day of the Dumpster.

I began thinking of writing this story back in 2011. It was a dark time of Power Rangers back then. Disney just recently sold Power Rangers back to Saban. There hadn’t been a new series for two years. Power Rangers was no longer in the zeitgeist. But I was a huge fan as a kid, and comic book movies were crushing it in the theaters, I always thought Power Rangers could be just as entertaining as any of them. I thought that in order to ever see a Power Ranger reboot on the big screen, we would first need to see a mature version of the super hero team in comic book form. After coming to the realization that nobody was going to publish it, I took Chris Hardwick’s advice and created something I wanted see myself.

So here it is! My reboot of the Power Rangers. My philosophy with this story was to make Power Rangers in the mold of Marvel’s Ultimate Universe. I wanted it to be a story about a group of teenage characters who felt real. Most importantly, I wanted everything to happen for a reason and answer important questions like: “Why is Zordon on Earth and why is he a floating head?”, “Why did he choose these 5 teenagers?”, “Why is Rita trying to take over Earth?”, "Why isn't the government concerned about the presence of aliens?", etc.

I also wanted to remove as much cheesiness as possible. Let’s be honest. We remember the old Power Rangers show as being awesome, but it sucks. Trust me. I watched it many times while writing drafts of this script and the follow ups. I wanted to make all the characters seem real. Even Zordon and Rita. I came up with elaborate backstories to make the characters more than one dimensional clichés. I removed some of the cheesy names and changed character traits of some of beloved characters.

For this “Pilot” arc, I came up with a story that focused on Jason Scott. Some of the other Rangers make appearances in their civilian forms, but this is about Jason getting his powers. Just a heads up.

This is my take on the Power Rangers. I hope I did a good job. I hope you like it.

Now enjoy this “Pilot” arc of Zordon’s Power Rangers. And send me your thoughts and criticisms on the Contact page.
